The Harlequins Rugby Club will be launching their recruitment drive shortly and will be looking at improving the status of their club as they prepare for their 25th Anniversary next year. The club, which was founded in 1984 when Grosvenor Old Boys amalgamated with Wanderers, have come a long way since their inception all those years ago.

Although yet to have won the Premier Division Moor Cup they have had their name engraved on the Murray Cup in 1999 when the won the knockout competition the year they celebrated their 15th anniversary. The club has a proud list of Springboks on their books including their first ever Springbok captain Johan Muller the current skipper of the Sharks. Among the other Bok legends who wore the famous Quins strip are Andre Joubert and Vleis Visagie and it goes without saying that the club will now be wanting to turn back the clock and recapture some their great moments in their short but illustrious history.

The club won their first piece of KZN Rugby Union silverware in their first year of existence when the took home the Second Division Wylie Cup and will now be recruiting to strengthen their chances for the 2009 season with their Academy on the Bluff also in mind.

Anyone wishing to speak to Harlequins can contact Gary Smith at or Andy Keast at .

New Home for Duikers - Updated 6 March, 2008

The Duikers Rugby Club have been given a new home at The Absa Stadium Durban and have called for a meeting at their new facility - The Ruck and Maul on Tuesday 26 February at 5.30 pm. To many, the Duikers Club like the Quaggas and Barbarians rugby still holds a very special place in the game and there are some who also firmly believe that these three organisations should have all become a far more integral part of the transformation process in the sport in this country.

The Duikers new facility at Absa Stadium the Ruck and Maul will not be ready for use for the Sharks home game against the Blues as expected. Due to too a technical hitch with the air conditioners the new Duikers home will now only be ready for use from 29 March.

Sad Passing of a True Collegian - 8 February, 2008

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing away of a past Chairman and friend Cobus van Niekerk on Tuesday the 5th of February 2008 Cobus suffered a heart attack whilst diving in the Red Sea on a diving holiday with his wife and friends.

Cobus was Chairman of the Rugby Club as well as the main club in the late 90's and also served as a past Vice President of the Natal Rugby Union and was the current Chairman of the Board at the Falcons Rugby Union We remember Cobus for his passion in the club and for rugby in general Condolences to family and friends during this time of bereavement .

Cobus : Collegians Salutes You

Sadly, two other obituaries are reported: Richard Malan (04/01/1934 - 24/01/2008) of Rovers and Joachim Johannes Prinsloo Terblanche - affectionately known as Shaun (09/01/1959 - 09/01/2008) of Harlequins

These were three very special rugby men who served their clubs and the game with distinction.

Malan was educated at Rondebosch Boys High came to Durban from the Western Cape as a young 20 year old working in the Wool Industry and joined Rovers on his arrival. Needless to say his loyalty and dedication to his club and his time as a no nonsense member serving on the DRSU council will undoubtedly be long remembered. He was a rugby man, a great club man, a father, a grandfather and above all a most wonderful family man of the highest order. We pass on our condolences to his wife Gail, daughters Lara and Tanya, son Anton together with their spouses Martin, Steve and Julie respectively and grandchildren Joel, Georgia, Sam and Tom. Say hi to Ferdie (NEL) and the two Roysie's (DRYBURGH AND McLEAN)Pete.

Shaun Terblanche was a true Quin, a dedicated rugby man and a loyal member of society who had such a passion for the youth in his community. He became like a father to so many youngsters that past through his hands so it was not surprising that he and his lovely wife Renee were chosen to look after the Harlequins rugby house, which they did with so much love and understanding. Shaun Terblanche was a likeable man with a big heart especially for his beloved youth, the game, his club and his family. Rest well big boy and our condolences to his wife Renee, his two boys Billy and Pieter together with all their other family members.
