Jes Foord Foundation Rugby Day

Following on from last week's success, another Jes Foord Rugby Day will take place, this one on Saturday at the Pete Booysen Stadium on the Maritzburg campus (Golf Road, PMB) ahead of the Fidelity Security Moor Cup match UKZN v Varsity College Old Boys match.

Varsity Rugby has partnered with the Jes Foord Foundation to launch the Rugby against Rape Project: http://www.jff.org.za/rugby_against_rape_project.html

The aim of the Rugby Day is to raise awareness for the Jes Foord Foundation, and to raise funds for the Jes Foord Foundation. In addition UKZN Rugby has committed to help recruit volunteers (Psychology final year and honours students) for the Jes Foord Foundation.

Jes Foord, survivor of a brutal gang rape in 2009, has given her name to the Jes Foord Foundation, an organisation that supports victims following their own traumatic ordeals, helping restore lives after rape. The Foundation relies on donations from companies and individuals who have the urge to bring hope to hundreds of people going through the harrowing aftermath of rape. Varsity Rugby has embraced the cause and is raising funds for the Jes Foord Foundation.

Last week, Jes visited the UKZN Rugby Club in Pietermaritzburg and gave a moving and informative lecture on her ordeal and how she overcame it.

The Rugby Day in PMB will start at 10.30 am and includes 12 teams, including some epic encounters, including:

  • Cedara Ladies v Varsity Ladies
  • UKZN Alumni Over 40s v UKZN Rowers & Cricketers
  • UKZN "Thirsty Thirds" v Cedara College
  • First Division: UKZN Howard College v Waratahs RFC
  • Moor Cup: The top-of-the-table (nearly) match - UKZN v Old Boys RFC
  • The Sharks v Cheetahs match on the big screen

There will be jumping castles for the kids and a beer garden for the moms and dads.

Jes Foord will present the prizes.
