On Monday evening, the KZNRU Club Awards took place at The Absa Stadium Durban, honouring the various clubs across the length and breadth of the province for their efforts and achievements over the past rugby season.

President Peter Hassard adressed the assembled guests, saying, "Thanks to the Sponsors for their on-going support and we are once again grateful to SuperSport for broadcasting a number of games. The season ended on a high, the final of the Murray Cup at Varsity was one of the finest club games I've watched in my career. Congratulations to Old Boys and College Rovers on a fantastic game of rugby, and well done to Rovers for winning. To the Vryheid boys, well done on winning the 1st Division. To the chaps from Matatiele, congratulations, it's fantastic to have a club from the north and one from the south winning trophies.

"To the club officials and coaches for all the hard work they put into rugby, without you, we wouldn't be here tonight. To the club sponsors as well, we thank you greatly for putting your hands in your pockets and helping out club rugby in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

"To the main league sponsors House of Paint, many thanks. Captain Morgan, the sponsors of the Murray Cup, we thank you as well, we appreciate your sponsorship over the past few years.

"I'd like to thank the referees, Paul Ackerman and your team, without you, club rugby couldn't be run in KZN and finally, I'd like to thank the council and members of staff who have assisted, as well as a special thank you to Albert Hanekom, he's been a real stalwart."
