Club rugby swings back into action this weekend after the Easter recess with early front runners Acer Duran Collegians crossing the Umgeni to meet Goss and Balfe Crusaders in Durban North.

Crusaders would have been buoyant about their good away win against Thanda ZRA Zululand in the opening round but will be astutely aware that their visitors from the shadows of Mr. Price Kings Park will be a completely different kettle of fish. Certainly Collegians do look as though they will be a hugely tough nut to crack this season.

Varsity College Old Boys will be hosting Fidelity Security Jaguars at their Riverside home grounds in Durban North while Jonsson College Rovers travel to Zululand to meet the Rhinos at Mick Kelly Park.

In the remaining fixture FNB UKZN Maritzburg travel to the Bluff to face Bluff SuperSpar Harlequins. The students, although going down 34-21 can hold their heads high after a fine performance against a strong Duikers lineup in the curtain raiser to the Super 15 match between the Sharks and Hurricanes at Kings Park on Saturday.

The KZNRU deservedly honored the varsity club by staging their centenary game as the curtain raiser to the Vodacom Super 15 match between the Sharks and the Hurricanes and one just feels that once they experience glory that they will start to perform with more vigor and create more than a few problems for the so called more favored sides.

Two Under 20 ‘A’ games were played last week with Oldies coming oh so close to upsetting the pace setters Collegians in the Frank Norris competition with their visitors squeaking home 19-14 at the Durban Clubs home grounds. In the other match Rovers were also given a good game eventually coming away with a hard fought 26-15 win over their hosts Crusaders.

This weekend Collegians host Pietermaritzburg, Harlequins will be hosted by ‘Saders’ and Empangeni travel to Durban to meet Old Boys with Rovers having a bye.

The First Division also gets back into full swing as well with front runners Ricoh Maritzburg Collegians hosting Wentworth, Toti entertain their neighbours South Coast Warriors, Hillcrest are at home to Ballito Dolphins, FNB UKZN Durban host Kokstad and Maritzburg Elephants welcome Richards Bay in the capital.
