The FLYA Sportswear Invitational

FLYA Sportswear, Powered by Time Clothing, have introduced a new club rugby tournament to KZN, an Invitational Knockout Rugby Tournament which will kick off this Friday night.

This generous sponsorship of a new tournament pitting four KZN clubs against each other over two Friday evening double-header clashes sees two first team matches played at Northwood Crusaders Sports Club in Durban North.

This year, as a pilot project, the tournament will feature four teams, Rovers, Collegians, Varsity Old Boys and Crusaders with the desire to extend the number of teams participating in it in the future.

On Friday 22nd, Collegians will meet Rovers at 6.30pm with Crusaders hosting Varsity Old Boys at 8pm. The winners of those two games go into next Friday's final (also at Crusaders), with the losers fighting it out for 3rd and 4th spots in the early game.

The focus of this tournament is on good, clean family fun, with clean, but hard rugby for the spectators. All are welcome to attend, bring the kids and soak in the atmosphere.

With the family focus, bad behaviour on the field is heavily frowned upon. A punch will result in a red card (as per IRB rules) and the player will be ineligible to play in the finals next week. Two yellow cards in a match equal a red card with the same result. Any abuse of the match officials (by players, coaching staff or spectators) will also result in serious action.

In a family oriented tournament such as this, such behaviour will not be tolerated.

Prizes consist of playing kit, made by Time Clothing, as well as a monetary incentive. Time Clothing export overseas and deliver high quality sports kit including soccer, cricket, athletics, netball and hockey across a range of disciplines. The also produce a rugby ball which will be used in the tournament. This is not their first foray into rugby tournament sponsorship; they are also involved in the Cape Town 10s and Jozi 10s amongst others.
