Mini Rugby Back at Rovers

In 1974 it was the late Dr Kevin ‘Laser’ Taylor who first introduced Mini Rugby to KZN out of the then Berea Rovers Rugby Club and soon the game started to thrive and grow amongst the other clubs at this level. For years Rovers were a force in mini rugby with great players emerging out the system years later but sadly they somehow dwindled into obscurity whilst the game, fortunately, managed to survive and thrive in the other top clubs with SA Home Loans Durban Collegians and Nashua Crusaders leading the way.

Now 40 years later Jonsson College Rovers will be celebrating Dr Kevin Taylor's legacy and have fittingly embarked on a program to reinstate the junior game back at the 115 year old club with Clifford Nel, a passionate Old Boy of the club at the helm, and heading up the program with their under 6’s and under 11’s practices already underway on Friday evenings between 6 and 7pm. More interested families are more than welcome to contact Clifford Nel at or email . Meanwhile, Under 12 to Under 18 players are encouraged to go down to Rovers at KP 3 and register with the club as training for all these age groups kicks off on 25 June at 6pm.

Rovers will be hosting a mini rugby tournament on Sunday 11 April for the first time in over 12 years and are looking forward to honouring Dr ‘Laser’ Taylor the dentist who also introduced the gum guard to the game in South Africa.
