Fidelity Security Moor Cup Season Preview

This Saturday sees a spectacular launch to the new Fidelity Security Moor Cup season at the Kings Park Outer Fields. All eight Premier Division teams will be in action in what promises to be a feast of rugby for the spectators. Having received a huge cash injection from Fidelity Security for the forthcoming season - everyone involved is expecting quite an exciting season. Jonsson College Rovers will be keen to extend their recent dominance in the competition having been crowned champions for the past eight seasons.

They take on the Zululand Rhinos this weekend with new coach, Brian "Beans" Bateman at the helm. They also have a new chairman with Juno Fourie taking over. Bateman will hope to continue on the success of previous coach Robert du Preez.

The season also sees Amanzimtoti take their place in the compettion. They were impressive winners of the First Divison last season and will be hoping to carry a good fight to the so called "heavyweights" in the division. Jeff Harper continues as their head coach.

Toti will be up against FNB UKZN Impi in their opening encounter and the Maritzburg outfit will be led this season by new coach Matt Reed. This is his first season involved with the club and Reed is looking forward to the challenge.

"As the season progresses I should learn more about the team, we have a lot of potential and I am hoping we can have a good season. Our preparations have gone well for the opening weekend," said Reed.

Varsity College RFC have also made a coaching change this season with Ian Adendorff at the helm. They will be up against Ricoh Motswako Pmb Collegians in their opening game. Pmb Collegians are going to be under the watchful eye of the experienced Carel Nel who has taken over the head coach duties.

Adendorff said that he is hoping to build on a fairly young side.

"We are not short of talent and I am hoping to get the best out of a fairly young team," he said. "A good brand of running rugby is what I would like to achieve with the team."

The fourth encounter on Saturday sees title hopefuls SA Home Loans DBN Collegians take on Nashua Durban Crusaders. Collegians, the 26 times champions, will be wanting to put an end to Rovers stranglehold in the tournament. Robin Swanepoel continues as the head coach. He will come up against Ronnie Uys who will be utilized as a player/ coach for Crusaders this season.
