Castle Murray Cup

It's all about building entertainment and excitement! It's the 2011 Castle Murray Cup as interest grows in KZN's most popular and historic club rugby tournament, now entering the quarter-final stages.

On Wednesday evening at the Ruck and Maul pub at Mr Price KINGS PARK, the quarter-final draw took place to see who plays who, and where. Down to just eight clubs, this innovation continues to see draws made for fixtures, making for an exciting competition where there is no guarantee for home ground status, nor opposition.

First there were 16 teams, now there are eight following the first round of matches and the upsets with First Division clubs Ricoh Maritzburg Collegians and Newcastle Highlanders defeating Premier Division sides Fidelity Security Jaguars and Bluff SuperSpar Harlequins respectively over the weekend.

Ricoh Maritzburg Collegians and Newcastle Highlanders were joined by Varsity College Old Boys, Jonsson College Rovers, Acer Durban Collegians, Thanda Zululand Rhinos, FNB Maritzburg Varsity and Goss and Balfe Crusaders who will host the semis and finals. The quarter-final matches will be played on Saturday 20 August, with all matches kicking off at 3pm.

The Reserves follow these fixtures, playing for the Peter Taylor trophy, currently held by college rovers.

A similar draw was made earlier for Junior Murray Cup quarter-final fixtures:

Vryheid will play Hillcrest, Toti meet Ladysmith, Richards Bay clash with Harlequins and Jaguars are up against Ballito. The Reserves will be playing for the Keith Parkinson trophy.
